SUMMER SCHOOL: A GRAND GRADUATION

The atmosphere at Mama Mayila's Cradle on the big day is full with excitement and anticipation as fifty children from Hope's free summer school gathered to graduate. The venue was bustling with activity, with every corner packed to the rafters. The children eagerly awaited their turn to collect their report cards and certificates from the esteemed guest, York Headwoman, M’Memunatu Banta. The highlight of the day was the generous donation from the Werkendam Reformed Church in the Netherlands, providing each graduate with a brand new bag filled with essential school supplies such as pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, and exercise books, ensuring they were well-equipped for the upcoming school term.

The celebrations continued with a scrumptious slap-up feast for both children and parents in attendance. The takeout boxes brimming with jollof rice and fried chicken, accompanied by snacks and washed down with fizzy pop. As the class of 24 posed for photographs on the sports pitch, the joy and sense of accomplishment were palpable.

Throughout the entire month of August, Hope's free summer school provided valuable education to a total of sixty-one local children. The program, led by two qualified teachers, focused on helping the kids stay engaged with learning during the summer break. By practicing with past national exam papers, the children were well-prepared for the challenges of the new school year ahead. The graduation ceremony was a proud moment for all, especially for the fifty children who successfully completed the program. Notably, the majority of students and graduates were girls, with thrity young girls making up 60% of the total, highlighting their dedication and commitment to education.
