SLANGO AGM: A UNIFIED VOICE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Mo Bangura

Mama Mayila was proud to attend the 16th annual general meeting of the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO) on behalf of Hope Foundation and held in the Vanilla Complex, Aberdeen. The all-day event focused on NGOs role in contributing to national development as well as delegates agreeing SLANGO accounts and voting for the new Board.

Mama Mayila was filled with a sense of pride and purpose attending the 16th annual general meeting of the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO), representing the Hope Foundation. Taking place at the Vanilla Complex, located in the vibrant neighborhood of Aberdeen, the event promised to be a full day of engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and vital decision-making that would help shape the future of the NGO sector in Sierra Leone.

As Mama Mayila arrived at the Vanilla Complex, she was greeted by a diverse assembly of delegates from various non-governmental organizations, representing different sectors and each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table and a shared commitment to the collective mission of fostering national development. Throughout the day, attendees participated in a series of presentations and workshops that highlighted the pivotal role NGOs play in addressing pressing social issues, such as poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

The meeting also served as a platform for delegates to review and agree the financial accounts of SLANGO, ensuring transparency and accountability within the organization. This process is critical to reinforce the trust between the member organizations and the communities they serve. Following this important financial review, the delegates engaged in the democratic process of voting for the new Board members. This election was not merely a procedural formality; it represented a significant opportunity for fresh leadership to emerge, bringing new ideas and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of NGOs in Sierra Leone.

As the day progressed, Mama Mayila engaged with fellow delegates and was particularly interested in how the collaborative efforts of these organizations could be leveraged to create sustainable development initiatives that would empower local communities and drive lasting change. Mama Mayila was inspired by the passion and dedication of her peers, who were equally committed to making a difference in the lives of those they served. The event not only reinforced Mama Mayila's belief in the power of collective action but also strengthened her resolve to advocate for the needs of Sierra Leone communities through the work of the Hope Foundation.
