HARVESTING MAIZE, MOKABI & SWEET POTATO

It’s time to harvest the last of the seasons' vegetables sustainably grown in rice paddies and the Hope Sakuma team set to picking super-nutritious mokabi, maize and sweet potato.

Growing vegetables in our rice paddies means they benefit from soil enriched with Azolla and duck and fish dung from our intensive nature-based rice system reducing farmers’ fertilizer costs.

And with the harvest loaded and Freetown bound to Mama Mayila's Cradle and the kids in our interim care programmes the work will soon begin to return our vegetable paddies into rice paddies for rainy season.
