CELEBRATING WORLD BEE DAY IN SIERRA LEONE!

On World Bee Day we're celebrating our bees and their honey at harvest time in Sanda Magbolontor chiefdom.

Foday's in his gear collecting the hives we've seen being hand-woven and covered in cow dung and palm and placed in high in these rainforest trees earlier in the year.

These expert Limba beekeepers, who've harvested honey for generations from our rainforest bees, now harvest sustainably without using traditional smoke that can kill these essential pollinators.

The hives being collected from Murenga, Arnica, Orsaka, Gabantt and Toothbrush trees all highly-prized by local herbalists for their medicinal qualities and next year Foday agrees to number the hives and trees so the FBO can harvest single variety honey.

Later this year our Honey FBO have agreed to weave extra hives for our cashew trees to aid pollination as they mature and to train some women from each village how to harvest the honey sustainably.
