REUNITING CHILDREN WITH FAMILIES

It was such a sad day at Hope interim care centre as Bas, Fay, Izzy, Dax and Alex were reunited with family at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, following our on-going efforts to track down birth families of children in our care.

Mums and dads were really happy to see their children and Uncle Williams made sure each child knows they're always welcome to visit friends and come to our parties and that we’ll do whatever we can to see them thrive at home with their birth families.

Whenever, our on-going investigations track down an actual mum and dad we hold off 'til the holidays to minimize disruption to schooling. It's a tough thing to say goodbye and this month we'll resettle a total of six children but there are so many genuine orphans and vulnerable children at risk that it's necessary and the right thing to do.

Our focus on reunifying children with their biological families and supporting children, orphaned by Ebola and living with extended families, in our Kinship Fostering programme in Moa Wharf, an Ebola-devasted slum in central Freetown, along with in-country fostering and adoption are the main ways we can help vulnerable children and fullfill the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender Equality and Children's Affairs 's alternative care policy.
